چکیده

Ultraviolet (UV)-curable nail lacquers, also called ‘gel polishes’, are novel popular manicure agents that are designed to be applied onnatural nails. They aremarketed under different brands, oneofwhich is Shellac®, launched by CND®, San Diego, CA, in 2010. These products have the advantages of being odourless, harden rapidly, and offering a wide spectrum of glossy colours. They are resistant and give a 2–4-week manicure without chipping (1). Gel polish contains the same pigments that are used in traditional nail lacquers, but also photoinitiators, and UV-curable acrylate or methacrylate monomers and oligomers (1). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of contact cheilitis caused by a UV-curable nail lacquer.

Severe Onychodystrophy due to Allergic Contact Dermatitis from Acrylic Nails

Acrylic nails, including sculptured nails and the new ultraviolet-curable gel polish lacquers, have been associated with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). We report 2 cases of ACD to acrylic nails with severe onychodystrophy and psoriasiform changes including onycholysis and subungual hyperkeratosis. In both cases, the patients did not realize the association between the use of acrylate-based ...

Occupational allergic contact dermatitis disseminated from multifunctional acrylates in ultraviolet-cured lacquers.

A case of disseminated allergic contact dermatitis in a screen process printer is presented. The skin lesions were caused by multifunctional acrylates (methylpropane triacrylate and pentaerythritol triacrylate--highly positive patch tests (+ + +) after 48 and 96 h) present in ultraviolet cured transparent lacquer used in coat printed posters to make them weather-resistant. Patch tests with lacq...

Allergic contact dermatitis caused by acrylates and methacrylates--a 7-year study.

BACKGROUND Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) caused by (meth)acrylates is traditionally an occupational disease among dentists, printers, and fibreglass workers. With the use of artificial nails, cases have been reported both in nail technicians and in users. OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to characterize ACD caused by (meth)acrylates, identify the responsible allergens, and assess th...

Is there a good in vivo method to show whether gloves are sufficiently protective when a nail technician is exposed to (meth)acrylates? An in vivo pilot study.

We report a case of a non-atopic, 37-year-old nail technician who developed blisters, itching, scaling, and redness, that is, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), on the hands and fingers owing to sensitization tomethacrylates and acrylates, in this article called (meth)acrylates, only months after finishing her trainee period. The protective effect of gloves was studied in an in vivo system simu...

How should we advise patients with allergic contact dermatitis caused by (meth-)acrylates about future dental work?

Although acrylic monomers are strong skin sensitizers (1), their corresponding fully cured polymers are considered to be inert. Until recent years, allergic contact dermatitis caused by acrylates, the term comprising, in the following, also methacrylates, was primarily an occupational disease among dentists, printers, and fiberglass workers (2). In our practice, there has been a steady increase...
